§ Mr. Roebuckasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what progress is being made to encourage good parent-teacher relationships as recommended in the Plowden Report; and whether he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Gordon WalkerAt the end of 1967, my Department published a paperback "Inside the Primary School" and devoted one of its "Reports on Education" to the subject of "Teachers and Parents". A booklet giving examples of good practice in parent-teacher relationships will, as recommended in the Plowden Report, be published later this year. Various aspects of primary education of interest to parents will be covered in future "Reports on Education" and in the Department's periodical "Trends in Education".
I have already welcomed the establishment of the Home and School Council, whose chief object is to encourage the 235W development of good parent-teacher relationships and whose representatives I shall be meeting shortly.
