§ Mr. Biffenasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the estimated total of United Kingdom exports of goods and services which arose from net Govern- 30W ment overseas expenditure of £272 million and £188 million on military and other purposes, respectively, in 1966 as set out in Table 1 of the United Kingdom Balance of Payments.
§ Mr. Roy JenkinsIt is not possible to estimate this at all precisely. A proportion of the Government's overseas expenditure returns, directly or indirectly, to this country in the form of export orders and so forth. But a major part of this expenditure almost certainly creates a net claim on our foreign exchange resources.
