Mr. Alan Lee Williamsasked the Minister of Transport if she will make a statement on the number of cases of pilfering, theft and other crimes in London docks in the years 1964, 1965, 1966 and 1967; whether she will indicate the size of the dock police; and what co-ordination exists between the Port of London Authority and the Metropolitan Police.
§ Mr. SwinglerI understand from the Port of London Authority that the following offences in the London docks were known to the police:
1964 1965 1966 1967 All offences involving theft and breaking and entering premises 705 895 867 746 Other indictable offences 85 57 91 88 The approved establishment of the Authority's police force is 602; the actual strength is 569.
The closest co-operation is maintained with the Metropolitan Police and the Essex Constabulary at all levels both in the exchange of information and in the investigation of crime.
