Mr. James Davidson

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what were the total numbers of civil servants employed by the Treasury and subsidiary departments, and by the Department of Economic Affairs, as appropriate, at the beginning of 1946, 1951, 1964 and at the latest available date.

Just before 1st April 1964, 52 staff of the University Grants Committee had ceased to be Treasury staff. 25 Treasury staff transferred to D.E.A. in October 1964 with their work. The 1968 figure for Treasury Staff includes about 80 subordinate staff previously carried on the strengths of other departments.
