HC Deb 17 January 1968 vol 756 cc617-8W
Mr. Wingfield Digby

asked the Secretary of State for Commonwealth Affairs what additional assistance is to be given to Malta, owing to the continued closure of the Suet; Canal; and whether he will make a statement on his recent conversations with the Prime Minister of Malta.

Mr. George Thomson:

On the first part of the question I have nothing to add to the Answer given by my predecessor to the hon. Member for Harrow, West (Mr. John Page) on 17th July, 1967.

Malta's economic problems, including the Dockyard, were discussed by my hon. Friend the Minister of State when he saw the Prime Minister of Malta in my absence on 5th January.

He assured the Prime Minister of Malta of our urgent concern to make progress on the recommendations of the Report of the Joint Mission for Malta. —[Vol. 750, c. 189–190.]
