§ Dr. Ernest Daviesasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether he will make a statement about the report of the inquiry into the flow of candidates in science and technology into higher education.
§ Mr. Gordon Walker:The report, which is being published today, confirms that there has been a swing away from science in schools in England and Wales and 401W suggests ways of remedying a potentially dangerous situation. The report deserves wide publicity and discussion. The main conclusion which concerns my Department relates to the provision of further statistics. This I am looking into and hope to arrange. The other recommendations are directed to local education authorities, the Schools Council, the universities and the teachers. I invite them to consider the report carefully and to let me have their views on its recommendations.
