§ 85. Captain W. Elliotasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer, whether it is his present policy that Her Majesty's Stationery Office should be run on commercial principles; and what is the profit or loss during the past year on the sale of books and pamphlets.
§ Mr. Harold LeverThe main function of the Stationery Office is to provide supplies and services to Parliament and Government Departments. The bookselling activities are run on commercial lines, but much of the service has to be given to Parliament and the public without strict regard to profitability. In 1966–67 a loss of £65,539 was incurred—which represents about 3 per cent. of turnover.
