§ Mr. Joseph SlaterIn the year 1966–67, the cost of counter service at Crown post offices was £33. 5 million. The comparable cost at scale payment offices (i.e. those which are not staffed by civil servants) was £26. 7 million. About 54 per cent. of the total business was conducted at scale payment offices.
