§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Prime Minister on what date he received a communication from Derek Burrows, of Forest Gate, E.7, concerning the import of frozen chips at a cost of £1,000,000 per annum; on what date he replied; and what was the nature of this reply.
§ The Prime MinisterOn the 14th January, and the Ministry of Agriculture, 259W Fisheries and Food replied to him on my behalf on the 31st January. The gist of the reply was that demand in frozen chips at present exceeded home production, that it would be contrary to our international obligations to ban such imports bur. that the Ministry knew of two firms in this country who intend to expand their production.
