§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government what action he has taken in connection with the proposal of the Greater London Council to raise the pay of their new Chief Executive Officer to £12,500 per annum, in view of the fact that this will be £3,020 per annum more than that paid to the existing officer; and whether this is in accordance with the Government's prices and incomes policy.
§ Mr. GreenwoodI asked the Greater London Council to consider this matter in the light of the recent report of the National Board for Prices and Incomes on the pay of Chief Officers in the Local Government Service, which was published after the Council had decided to offer a salary of up to £12,500 for the post. I understand that, subject to confirmation by the Council, a new Director-General has been nominated at a salary of £10,000 a year, which accords with the Board's recommendation.
