Earl of Dalkeithasked the Secretary of State for Scotland what consultations he has had with the National Farmers' Union of Scotland on the extent to which tenant farmers will undertake the financing of the provision, modernisation and maintenance of the fixed equipment of their farms themselves instead of regarding it as the landlord's responsibility.
§ Mr. RossWe have had informal discussions on matters of this nature during recent consultation with the Union on the proposed changes in the law on inherited tenancies of agricultural holdings in Scotland. While practice varies, tenants at present provide a substantial amount of fixed equipment on farms.
