§ Mr. Elystan Morganasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (1) to what extent the general level of food prices in Wales compares with that in England;
(2) if he will cause a survey to be made of those areas in the United Kingdom where, on a prima facie examination, food prices appear to be substantially higher than the United Kingdom average.
§ Mr. PeartThe Cost of Living Advisory Committee is currently examining whether more information on relative prices in different areas of the United Kingdom should be collected and published.
At present information on relative food price levels in different areas is confined to that published in the Annual Reports of the National Food Survey Committee. These indicate that in recent years the cost in Wales of the average diet for Great Britain has been some 2 to 4 per cent. higher than the general average.
