HC Deb 20 February 1968 vol 759 cc63-4W
65. Mr. Wingfield Digby

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government what plans he has for promoting the use of home-grown timber and timber products in house-building, especially by local authorities and public corporations, in view of the need to save imports, which cost about£500 million for timber and timber products alone before devaluation.

Mr. MacColl

Authorities and private house builders are aware of the increased cost of imported timber and therefore have every reason to use suitable home produced substitutes where these are cheaper. My right hon. Friend is, however, considering whether more specific advice to public authorities is needed.
