HC Deb 14 February 1968 vol 758 cc357-8W
Mr. Roy Hughes

asked the Minister of Transport what further progress has been made in the testing of safety devices to prevent the jack-knifing of articulated vehicles; and if she will make a statement.

Mr. Carmichael:

We have undertaken, joined in or observed trials of a number of anti-jack-knifing devices. We have kept fully in touch with possible developments and new ideas.

Extended trials of one type of device fitted to a large fleet of vehicles in normal operation are now proceeding and arrangements for similar large-scale trials of another kind of device are well advanced. These operational trials may need to continue for 12 months or more before conclusions can be reached.
