Accommodation is not formally divided between magistrates and higher courts, and information about the courts by whom the offenders in detention on 31st December, 1967, were committed is not recorded centrally. In the first six months of 1967, approximately 13 per cent. of committals to detention were by higher courts and 87 per cent. by magistrates' courts.

A new junior boys' centre will open next month at Eastwood Park, Glouces-

  1. (a) those committed by magistrates' courts;
  2. (b) those committed by higher courts:

In England and Wales the accommodation available and the population on 31st December, 1967, were as follows:

tershire, and proposals have been approved for an extension to Erlestoke senior boys' centre. Planning clearance has been sought for the provision of a senior and a junior boys' centre in the South-East, and possible sites have been investigated for additional places for senior and junior boys in the North-West, for senior boys in the North-East and for junior boys in the East Midlands.
