§ Mr. RossI informed police authorities in Scotland in September last that I was prepared to authorise additional expenditure in the current financial year on equipment for new systems of policing. Most forces have sufficient local resources available to meet this expenditure but in some cases I have undertaken to reimburse them the cost of this additional equipment against repayment by the police authorities as early as possble in the next financial year. A supplementary estimate for these payments will be presented to Parliament in due course. In the meantime the necessary funds are being advanced from the Civil Contingencies Fund.
