§ Mr. J. P. W. MallalieuThe Merchant Shipping Act, 1964 gives effect to the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea, 1960, which does not provide for regulation of the safe construction of fishing vessels. I am, however, generally satisfied with the administration of the Act in so far as it covers safety equipment for fishing vessels, for which Rules were made in 1965. The question whether further powers are required is under consideration.
