§ Mr. Richard Wainwrightasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what estimate he has made of the approximate percentage increase in the level of Government support for the arts in Yorkshire in 1967–68 compared with 31W 1966–67, and of the similar percentage increase for the country as a whole.
§ Miss Jennie LeeThe total grant to the Arts Council rose by 26 per cent. from £5.7 million in 1966–67 to £7.2 million in 1967–68. Details of expenditure in individual counties are not at present available, but I am asking the Arts Council to assemble figures showing the grants they made in those two years direct to bodies and events in Yorkshire and I will send them to the hon. Member.
