§ Mr. Milneasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will now take steps to put into operation the proposals for the amalgamation of the police forces of Northumberland, Tynemouth and Newcastle, in view of the agreement reached by all parties to this proposal.
§ Mr. CallaghanThis amalgamation will lead to greater efficiency of policing for the area, and I have asked the police authorities concerned to continue to cooperate in the submission as quickly as possible of a voluntary amalgamation scheme, on which a good deal of progress has already been made.
