HC Deb 01 February 1968 vol 757 cc395-6W
Dr. David Owen

asked the Minister of Health what is the smallest and highest charge for local authority services involving home helps, meals on wheels and chiropody; what is the average charge for these services; and how many authorities provide each of these services.

Mr. Snow

Information about individual or average charges for these services is not available centrally since they are at the discretion of local authorities; but my information is that the standard charge probably varies between 5s. and 7s. per hour for home help and between Is. and 6s. per treatment for chiropody. The charge for meals-on-wheels varies with the cost of the meal.

All local health and welfare authorities in England and Wales provide a home help and chiropody service and all but three provide a meals-on-wheels service.
