Mr. Barnesasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether he will circularise local authorities directing their attention to the need for economies of scale in the purchase of educational equipment and materials; and what steps are currently being taken to co-ordinate the requirements of local educational authorities and institutions in the higher education sector for such equipment and materials.
§ Mr. Edward ShortThe Government will consider this matter in the light of the Report of the Joint Review Body on Local Authority Purchasing, which is expected to be published in January.
