§ Sir T, Beamishasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what he estimates to be the number of young people under the age of 19 working with voluntary services overseas; what is his estimate of the approximate annual cost of allowing their parents to continue to draw family allowances until their 19th 412W birthday; and if he will propose the necessary amendments to the Family Allowances Act to make this possible.
§ Mr. Swingler:About 300 volunteers under 19 are now working for the society called Voluntary Service Overseas. I do not consider that the suggested amendment would be justified. The cost would depend on how many of the parents were, as a result, entitled to draw family allowances.
