§ Sir C. Osborneasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department, in view of the fact that the number of work vouchers to immigrants are limited to 8,500 a year, why he allowed 2,937 male immigrants into Great Britain under the Commonwealth Immigrants Act, 1962, from India, in addition to the 2,008 from 419W Pakistan; and if he will administer the Act more strictly.
§ Mr. Merlyn Rees:As has been explained to the hon. Member on previous occasions the figures given by him are the totals of all men admitted during the month of October for whatever purpose, including students and visitors, and bear no relation to the voucher scheme. In that month the number of male voucher holders admitted from India and Pakistan were 134 and 50 respectively.
