§ 69. Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, without causing unnecessary work or expense in his Department, he will make an approximate estimate of the cost to the Exchequer of implementing those proposals made to him in the past year by hon. Members, the implementation of which involves Government expenditure and which have been rejected by Her Majesty's Government because of the need for limiting the increase in Government expenditure.
§ Mr. DiamondSo many verbal and written proposals have been made, with such varying degrees of precision, that even an approximate estimate of the Government expenditure involved could be made only after a very substantial expenditure of time and money.
