asked the Secretary of State for Employment and Productivity what percentage the average Scottish wage is of the national average wage at the latest convenient date; and what was the same comparison in 1963 and 1958.

The average weekly earnings of adult male manual workers, derived from the Department's inquiry of April, 1968, were £21 10s. 6d. in Scotland, that is 96. 7 per cent. of the United Kingdom figure of £22 5s. 3d. The comparable figures for April, 1963, were £14 17s. 4d. (92 per cent.) in Scotland and £16 3s. 1d. in the United Kingdom. Figures for 1958 are not available.
