asked the Secretary of State for Defence (1) what is the estimated final expenditure on the Linesman system;

(2) what is the total expenditure on the Linesman system to date.

Since Linesman/Mediator is being built as an integrated system, the cost of air defence (Linesman) cannot be separated precisely from that of air traffic control (Mediator). Expenditure to date on those elements wholly or primarily related to air defence purposes is of the order of £62 million, and on completion will be of the order of £85 million.
