HC Deb 04 December 1968 vol 774 cc503-4W
Mr. Newens

asked the Minister of Transport what proposals he has received for extending the Victoria line from its present terminus to Chingford; and what action he plans to take.

Mr. Bob Brown

We have received no proposals and no action by my right hon. Friend would be appropriate.

Mr. Newens

asked the Minister of Transport what study he made of the possibilities of extending the Victoria line on the London Underground to Chingford before approving the existing plans for the route; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Bob Brown

London Transport have concluded, I understand, after investigations of possible demand, that the cost of extending the Victoria Line north of Walthamstow would outweigh the benefits. Duplication of British Railways' service from Chingford would be wasteful, particularly as convenient interchange between the two lines is possible at Walthamstow.
