HC Deb 04 December 1968 vol 774 cc466-7W
64. Mr. Malcolm MacMillan

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what steps he is taking to ensure that shell-sand removal near the air-landing area in the Isle of Barra does not create further danger; and if he will make available safer and more suitable land and contribute towards the cost of a permanent airfield thereon, which can be used regardless of tidal conditions.

Mr. Ross

The removal of shell-sand is subject to my control by the terms of the contractors' lease. Since I am advised by my right hon. Friend the President of the Board of Trade that the shell-sand working does not constitute a danger to the landing strip, the second part of my hon. Friend's question does not arise.
