HC Deb 04 December 1968 vol 774 c470W
Mr. John Robertson

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what estimate he has made of the numbers of rough-sleeping and homeless single persons there are in the main centres of population in Scotland.

Mr. Ross

A survey published by the National Assistance Board in 1966 indicated that some 53 persons were sleeping rough in known places—mainly in and near towns in Scotland on the night of 6th December, 1965; and the survey also indicated that at around this time accommodation available at reception centres and lodging houses was generally much less than fully used. A further national survey has not been made, but the indications are that the general situation is not much changed.
