§ Mr. BennI have had discussions with representatives of the industry whose opposition to the new H.P. measures for motor vehicles is public knowledge. I explained the reasons for the decisions taken and discussed the implications for the industry.
§ Mr. Speedasked the Minister of Technology what estimate he has made of the effect on motor-cycle and three-wheeler sales, respectively, in home and export markets, of the hire-purchase restrictions announced on 1st November 1968 and the taxation changes and other measures announced on 22nd November 1968.
§ Mr. FowlerIt is estimated, on the basis of past experience, that sales on the home market, of home-produced and imported models, of both motor-cycles and three-wheeled vehicles may be reduced by up to one-fifth. The measures do not directly affect exports.
