asked the President of the Board of Trade what information he has from international organisations regarding the capacity of each of the aluminium smelters completed within the past two years or now under construction in other countries.

According to information collected by my Department from various international sources, seven new reduction plants with individual initial capacities ranging from 10,000 tons to 103,000 tons and with an average initial capacity of 59,100 tons have commenced production since January, 1966.

A further thirty-one new plants outside the United Kingdom, with expected individual initial capacities ranging from 20,000 tons to 127,000 tons and with an average initial capacity of 55,600 tons, are scheduled to commence production before the end of 1972.
