§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Minister of Social Security whether she is aware that the hon. Member for West Ham, North, wrote to her on 4th March, 1968, reference AFJ/59, on a matter concerning social security benefits, and that despite a telephone call to her Department and an oral promise of an answer on Wednesday, 3rd April, to the hon. Member, no reply had been received by Saturday, 5th April; and what action she proposes to take to resolve this matter.
§ Mr. PentlandAs the subject of the letter of 4th March concerned a person's entitlement to supplementary benefit, my right hon. Friend asked the Chairman of the Supplementary Benefits Commission to reply to my hon. Friend, which he did on 8th April. Both my right hon. Friend and the Chairman have expressed to the hon. Member their regret that an earlier reply was not possible in this case.
