HC Deb 11 April 1968 vol 762 c322W
Mr. Dean

asked the Secretary of State for Economic Affairs how many studies are at present being undertaken into possible development on Severnside, including the North Somerset area; who is undertaking these studies; what are their terms of reference; when they are expected to report; and who is coordinating the studies.

Mr. Frederick Lee

Only one study of the Severnside area as a whole is being undertaken. The Central Unit for Environmental Planning are considering the suitability of Severnside as the location for one or more major new population centres, to help accommodate part of the expected large increase in the country's population up to the end of the century. It is too early to state when the Unit's report will be presented. Details of some development studies of more limited scope which are also currently in train are as follows:

in this country; and what action he proposes to take.

Mr. William Rodgers

I am aware that there have been reports in the Press along these lines. The Vietnamese Embassy has been asked to comment.
