Mr. Hugh Jenkins

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) whether there is now a headquarters of the regional seat of government system; and whether it is permanently manned;

(2) what provision is made for the Women's Voluntary Services in the underground regional seats of government;

(3) whether he will provide for the accommodation of the Royal Family in his allocation of accommodation at Regional Seat of Government 6 near Reading;

(4) what provision is made to accommodate the Cabinet at Regional Seat of Government 6;

(5) from which underground bunker it is planned that the London Regional Director of Civil Defence shall operate in the event of nuclear war;

(6) which Government Departments have been provided rooms in the underground regional seats of government.

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what are the military and civil defence purposes of the regional seat of government system.

The purpose of regional government in war would be to assist in saving lives immediately after an attack and subsequently in preserving a framework of administration to maintain law and order, and to prepare for the restoration of a more normal life.
