HC Deb 11 April 1968 vol 762 cc299-300W
Mrs. Ewing

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what sums he has expended in each of the last five years on research into criminology in England and Wales.

Mr. Ennals

The information is as follows:

Financial Year £ thousands
1963–64 84
1964–65 110
1965–66 138
1966–67 160
1967–68 187

These figures include expenditure on the Home Office Vote on external research and on the salary costs (exclude- ing the proportion borne by the Scottish Home and Health Department) of the Home Office Research Unit, which is mainly engaged in criminological research. The totals are approximations; precise salary costs are not readily available and the final cost of external research in 1967–68 is not yet known.
