§ Mr. Chichester-Clarkasked the Minister of Public Building and Works whether he will list the names of the bodies engaged in research into aspects of the construction industry, the number of persons employed in each one of them and the amount of public funds expended in each case in the years 1965, 1966, 1967 and 1968, to the latest convenient date.
§ Mr. MellishThe names of organisations engaged in construction research and some indication of the staffing effort on individual projects is provided in the 1964 Review of Research and Development for the Construction Industry conducted by my Department. I have placed a copy in the library. A330W copy of the 1966 Review, which is now being published, will also be placed in the library when it is available. I cannot reveal details of the staffing and expenditure of individual bodies in this field, since assurances were given that these would not be disclosed separately.
The total being spent by my Department on construction research, including the Building Research Station, in 1968–69 is about £2 million. Owing to the transfer of the Building Research Station from the Ministry of Technology to my Department in 1967, comparable figures for earlier years are not readily available.
