HC Deb 10 April 1968 vol 762 cc253-4W
Mr. Noble

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what progress has been made in permanent repairs to buildings in Scotland after the storm damage; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Monro

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make a statement on the progress made in repairing damage caused by the gales in January, 1968.

Mr. Ross

I have at present nothing to add to the statement I made to the House on 4th April.—[Vol. 762, c. 619–23.]

Mr. Younger

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what further plans he has for giving help to those who suffered serious damage in the hurricane which hit Scotland on 15th January.

Mr. Ross

I announced the Government's plans to the House on 7th February and 4th April and have nothing to add at present.—[Vol. 762, c. 619–23.]

Mrs. Ewing

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what plans he has for clearing up the six million trees which fell in Scotland as a result of the recent storm damage.

Mr. Ross

I would refer the hon. Member to the reply I gave earlier today to the right hon. Member for Argyll (Mr. Noble).

Mrs. Ewing

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what plans he has formed since 7th February, 1968, to give assistance to local authorities who are out of pocket as a result of storm damage, so that a ceiling may be placed in each authority on the additional cost to the rates.

Mr. Ross

Final settlements can be made only in the light of all the relevant information from each authority, including for example the proceeds of insurance claims. I have invited local authorities to submit claims for the period to 30th June, and on the basis of these claims interim payment of grant will be made this summer.
