HC Deb 10 April 1968 vol 762 c258W
Mrs. Ewing

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the cost to public funds of educating and providing housing, health and welfare services for the average child from the age of five years to the age of 18 years in Scotland.

Mr. Millan

The cost to public funds of providing schooling for the average child, for the period he normally remains at school, is about £1,400. It is not possible to provide a meaningful estimate of how much of the cost of housing and health and welfare services is attributable to children.
