asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what were the numbers in 1966 and 1967 of immigrants and emigrants; and how many of the latter were returning to the country of their origin.

I understand that my hon. Friend refers to numbers of Commonwealth citizens admitted and embarked. The figures are as follows:

1966 442,742 391,394
1967 442,178 405,810

The number admitted included 50,465 coming for permanent settlement in 1966. and 61,377 in 1967.
