HC Deb 09 April 1968 vol 762 c209W
46. Mr. Albert Roberts

asked the Minister of Power whether he is aware that the North Eastern Gas Board informed the Normanton Urban Rural District Council that, if more than 40 of the 123 houses on the Berkridge West Estate were equipped for gas space and water heating, the connection charges would be waived, whereas there would be a charge of £2,000 if other fuels were used for heating; and if he will refer these charges to the National Board for Prices and Incomes.

Mr. Freeson

The Gas Board has a statutory duty to provide supplies on an economic basis and are empowered to levy contributions to their capital cost to ensure a proper return on capital. But the question of connection charges generally is now being reviewed.

The answer to the last part of the question is No.
