§ 37 and 38. Mr. Roseasked the Secretary of State for Commonwealth Affairs (1) whether, in view of the opening of peace negotiations in Nigeria, he will now stop the supply of arms to the Nigerian Federal Government;
(2) what categories of traditional arms have been supplied to the Nigerian Federal Government since the outbreak of war in that area.
§ Mr. George ThomsonIn answer to his first Question, I have to tell my hon. Friend that regrettably no peace negotiations have opened in Nigeria though peace efforts continue; and to the second Question: it is not the policy of Her Majesty's Government to disclose details of arms exported to other Governments.
§ Mr. John Fraserasked the Secretary of State for Commonwealth Affairs what part he has now been able to play in effecting mediation between Federal Nigeria and Biafra in response to recent requests from the Nigerian Government.
§ Mr. George ThomsonI would refer my hon. Friend to the reply given earlier today to the hon. Member for Brentford and Chiswick (Mr. Barnes).
