HC Deb 09 April 1968 vol 762 c215W
Dr. John Dunwoody

asked the Minister of Health what steps he proposes to take, in view of the decision of the Council of the British Medical Association not to revise its ethical code, so as to make it possible for its members to perform abortions on social grounds permitted by the Abortion Act, 1967.

Mr. K. Robinson

None. Each doctor has to decide for any patient in his care whether an abortion would be lawful under the Abortion Act, 1967. In my view, it is misleading to describe the grounds on which abortion would be lawful in terms other than those used in the Act.
