HC Deb 09 April 1968 vol 762 cc234-5W
Sir J. Gilmour

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what revised estimate he can now give of the amount of meat to be imported from South America immediately after the lifting of the ban on meat imports, in view of the fact that the Argentine Government have now announced that they will be sending meat to the United Kingdom.

Mr. Cledwyn Hughes

I have as yet no information from the trade which would enable me to add to the reply to the hon. Member on 3rd April.—[Vol. 762, c. 356–7.]

Sir J. Gilmour

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what proportion of the meat from South America which he has estimated will be imported into the United Kingdom after the lifting of the present ban on imports will be chilled; and what proportion will be frozen.

Mr. Cledwyn Hughes

Of the total tonnage mentioned in the reply of 3rd April to the hon. Member, about one-third chilled and two-thirds frozen.—[Vol. 762, c. 356–7.]
