HC Deb 09 April 1968 vol 762 c226W
Mr. Cant

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether talks with the Hong Kong Government regarding the withdrawal of her sterling balances in London have been concluded; and with what result.

Mr. Harold Lever

The exchanges which have been taking place with Hong Kong are not about the withdrawal of Hong Kong's sterling balances but about Hong Kong's future monetary arrangements in general in the light of the changed relationship between the Hong Kong dollar and sterling. Informal and preparatory talks which took place in January will be followed by confidential discussions with the Governor later this month.
