HC Deb 09 April 1968 vol 762 c234W
Mr. Temple

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (1) whether he is yet in a position to give a decision on official approval of a new and effective disinfectant against foot-and-mouth disease which has been brought to his attention by the hon. Member for the City of Chester;

(2) whether his review of approved disinfectants under the Diseases of Animals Acts has been completed.

Mr. Cledwyn Hughes

The review of our policy for approving disinfectants has not yet been completed and I cannot anticipate the outcome.

Mr. Temple

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food how many cases of foxes burrowing into burial pits and removing parts of carcases of animals buried in recent foot-and-mouth outbreaks have been brought to the attention of his Department.

Mr. Cledwyn Hughes

No reports of foxes burrowing into burial pits have been received by my Department. On one occasion foxes did gain access to incompletely burned carcases on a burial site where the remains had been temporarily buried.
