§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Minister of Transport on what date he received representations from the Secretary of the West Ham Trades Council regarding fare increases in London; and what was the nature of his reply.
§ Mr. MarshA letter from the Council was received on 28th March, 1968. The reply outlined the background against which the increases had been proposed by the London Transport Board and subsequently confirmed by the National Board for Prices and Incomes, and explained the statutory procedures still to be gone through before the increases can come into effect. It also emphasised that London fares have already been held down for over two years as a result of Government intervention.
