asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what proportion of the £5,840,000 allocated by the Arts Council to England is spent in London; and what proportion of the English administration costs of £355,380 are incurred in London.

Grants made by the Arts Council during 1967–68 to organisations based in London totalled about £3,064,000. This figure includes grants of £2,377,000 to the Royal Opera House, Sadlers Wells and the National Theatre, who all undertake touring outside London.

The Arts Council spent about £250,000 on administration in respect of their work in England. The staff of the Arts Council are based in London but visits all parts of England as a normal part of their duties.
