HC Deb 08 April 1968 vol 762 c183W
Mr. Moyle

asked the Minister of Health how many centres there are in England and Wales for treating children with spina bifida; where they are located; and how many cases they can deal with at a given time.

Mr. K. Robinson

There are centres of paediatric surgery for the newborn at Newcastle, Sheffield, Manchester, Liverpool and four in London. Treatment is also given at a number of other hospitals I regret that the information asked for in the last part of the Question is not available.

Mr. Moyle

asked the Minister of Health how many social workers trained in the treatment of spina bifida cases are employed in England and Wales.

Mr. K. Robinson

The training of all the 2,051 qualified social workers in the hospital and local health and welfare services equips them to help with the social problems of spina bifida.
