HC Deb 08 April 1968 vol 762 cc196-7W
Mr. Marten

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what proposals he has, in the light of the expansion of Royal Air Force Brize Norton, for providing educational facilities to meet this urgent situation; and if he will make a full statement.

Miss Bacon

Work has recently begun on two major projects in the area. These will provide 200 primary places at Carterton and 400 secondary places at Burford. A third project, for a new primary school, will be authorised to start in the current year. In addition we have recently increased the Authority's minor works allocation by £50,000, and they are planning minor works to provide 640 primary and 180 secondary places mainly in temporary accommodation, in the area. The Authority have also under consideration what further secondary provision should be made by extending an existing secondary school either at Burford or elsewhere within reach.
