HC Deb 08 April 1968 vol 762 c186W
Mr. Richard Wainwright

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government whether he will extend the Mortgage Option Scheme to suitable mortgages negotiated under professional supervision between private persons.

Mr. Greenwood

No. The qualifying lenders under Part II of the Housing Subsidies Act 1967 are the building societies, local authorities, insurance companies, friendly societies, new town development corporations and the Commission for the New Towns, who between them deal with well over 90 per cent. of long-term lending for house purchase.
